A Free Man of Color is in previews at the performing arts mecca Lincoln Center, and the designer for the set worked very closely with Ngambe Inc’s professionals to select and incorporate some splendid Wenge onto the set.
We checked the performance our last weekend. The play is great and the set is beautiful. We were proud to see products from Africa helping tell this moving story set in the United States during slavery. We hope everyone checks out our photos below and goes to Lincoln Center to see this performance and appreciate the beautiful woods on the set ! This is the first play that we’ve provided wood for and we look forward to many more. BROADWAY here we come!!

For this green project, we used Ambala wood which has great properties for the outdoors as well as the salt and moisture content found in this part of the country. This project features ultra green designs and fixtures with extensive use of solar energy through out.

I hope we haven’t been away from the blog too long, Ngambe’s been working on some great projects and we’ll get some pictures up online very shortly to share in our excitement.
We ran across another beautiful architectural project that’s grabbed our attention, this one is located in Calabasas, California. Designed by architect Eric Zuziak of Irvine California, the beautiful home features some of the woods we prefer working with at Ngambe including Aniegre and Zebrawood. Check out some of the pictures below and the write-up on the house from the LA Times!

Wood everywhere, even on the ceilings! The large wall on the left is made of Aniegre. We like!

They didn’t skimp on the Zebrawood either! Check out the island – Zebrawood base topped with chocolate leather granite – HOT!

Those cabinets are all Zebrawood!

The Portland based company hand makes hip sunglasses using wood from around the world including Ngambe favorites wenge and zebrawood! Custom shades are created by mixing and matching various color lenses set in frames of rosewood, wenge, zebrawood and maple. We checked out their blog (http://shwoodshop.com/shwoodblog/) and Shwood is also experimenting with a few other woods, including Koa from Hawaii.

Several fashion blogs have picked up on the company which started a year ago. Priced at just over $100 a pair, Ngambe is about to order some shades and not just for the novelty of this wood product, we’re having a heat wave in NYC and we need to deflect some of that sun!

Gabon is home to some of Africa’s most biodiverse rainforests. With around 80 percent of the country forested, Gabon has an estimated 8,000-10,000 species of plants (20 percent of which are endemic), over 670 species of birds, and nearly 200 mammals including lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, 10 species of monkeys, forest elephants, and even hippos that surf ocean waves. Gabon is one of few places on Earth where primary tropical rainforest extends all the way to the beach. Offshore the country has a wealth of marine life including a large population of humpback whales.
